The “Murals at Harcum,” designed and painted by Harcum College students, are an extraordinary, oversized collection of art inspired by Martin Zipin. From 1967 to 1987, under Zipin’s guidance, each painting class designed a mural for Klein Hall. Many of the murals are on permanent display in Klein Hall dining room. The murals cover topics of social, cultural, and political importance, such as, the war in Vietnam and the 1985 Move bombing to lighter topics such as the Philadelphia Flyers winning the Stanley Cup. In 2017, a historically significant collection of “lost” murals was discovered in a storage area of the basement in Klein Hall. As of August 2021, the murals are being restored on site and will be ready in time for a Fall gallery show.
